The week of May 11-17, 2009 is Children’s Book Week. Formerly, Children’s Book Week was in the Fall, but the Children’s Book Council has moved it to the spring.
On Tuesday, May 12 we will be having our annual “Book Character Dress-Up Day”. All students in Grades PK-8 will be able to come to school that day dressed up as a character from one of their favorite books. The costumes need not be elaborate; the character can be portrayed by a couple of items of clothing and/or by carrying something that identifies that character. The students should bring the book with them if at all possible.
Students can, of course, choose not to dress up, (in that case they should come in school uniform) and still bring in a favorite book.
In addition, on Friday, May 15 from 2-2:30 in the afternoon, we will have school-wide sustained silent reading. Everyone should bring a book to read; the younger grades will have teachers read to them.
We are looking forward to a week in which we can focus on books and the love of reading, and share some of our favorite books with each other. Thank you for all your support!
