Classroom instruction and activities are designed to prepare students for placement into OLA's Kindergarten Program. The curriculum will be developmentally appropriate and will include a wide range of small and large group activities in the areas of:

Here are some signs of readiness that should be observed in children before entering school:
• Being comfortable away from parents.
• Expressing ideas and feelings to adults other than parents.
• Taking care of toileting needs independently.
• Hanging up jack/sweater without help.
• Naming most parts of the body.
• Retelling familiar stories, rhymes, or songs.
• Entering a new activity without fear
• Accepting minor disappointments or limits without tears.
• Listening to and following directions.
• Working independently without constant adult supervision.
• Joining with a group of other children in listening to a short story.
• Stating their own full name and age to the teacher.
• Making simple decisions given a few choices of play activities.
• Taking care of personal belongings.
• Using a crayon with a relaxed grip.
• Repeating a series of four numbers without practice.
• Identifying the primary colors
• Drawing simple recognizable figures.
